How Does Virtual Reality Sales Work?

When people think about sales, they are usually met with negative thoughts. I’m sure many of you have experienced walking into a retail store or a automobile shop, only to be instantly greeted by your new salesman. He pretends to be interested in you by asking how your day has went, before subtly shifting the conversation towards what you’re looking for. You shake him off, but he comes back a few minutes later, with some excuse to begin the conversation again.

While I’m sure everyone has encountered this type of situation before, nobody actually enjoys this type of interaction. As buyers, we ultimately want to feel like we’re in control of the buying decision.

When we think of Virtual Reality, we imagine a completely different picture. We think of immersive worlds, characters, and narratives that leaves us lost in wonder, as if we’re a child again. As we return back to reality, our heart sinks, and we end up craving for more.

I truly believe that this is the right way to do sales, and has to be the way forward. Instead of a combative dynamic of salesman vs customer, virtual reality creates win-win-dynamics.

Imagine walking into a car shop, and being asked what car you would like to try. Yes — you can try any car you want, even ones not physically in the car shop. You put on the headset, and you pick 2 or 3 of your favorite car models. As you become transported into the virtual world, you quickly find yourself sitting in the car seat. You interact with a few elements, and get a feel of the interior, before seamlessly switching to a different models. 5 minutes later, you decide to take the car for a drive in the mountains, then the city, and finally along the beach.

15 minutes later, you take off the headset, having well understood the experience of what it would be like to driven in each car. You finally decide to buy the Tesla you’ve been thinking about for a while.

And it really can be that simple. There is no salesman here, as you literally cannot see him while you’re in the headset! Yet, the sales process has happened. They say a picture speaks a thousand words, but nothing beats feeling like you’ve already owned the car.

Lets move towards a future where we sell through entertaining & educative experiences. Not only does this save massive costs, but also creates better experiences.
