Belief

Belief is a strictly human phenomenon not seen in the animal world. It originates from the fact that we are the only creatures we know of that can think about our future and how we want it to be. Beyond that we can actually act to bring that idea, that postulation of a better time and a better place to fruition. And belief is directly tied to the notion that we can change things if we work hard enough. If not, why believe anything? Why believe you can make a difference? Why even try?

The thing about belief is this, in order to make our dreams into realities, our belief must be stronger than the obstacles set in front of us, than the hindrances in our path — no matter how great they are. An unbreakable belief in positive change, and that we can bring it, is the tie that binds my brothers and sisters in a group I’m part of called Brand New Congress (BNC). BNC was started with the best of intents. With the loftiest of goals. To replace our dysfunctional congress with people who will look out for our citizens and guide our government in a direction that will create an equal opportunity for all Americans to succeed in life.

We know that to do that we must create an infrastructure that allows for that to happen, and the primary hurdle to clear to accomplish this is the corruption we see amongst our representatives. The ones in charge of creating the firm foundations for success, are bought off. They are paid to be immovable on any topic that serves the people because it may function as an impediment to the profits of the purchasers of our politicians. This cannot continue, and the only way to kill this crisis with which we are faced is by getting people in office that aren’t corrupted and that are, indeed, incorruptible.

How is that possible? People scoff at the assertion that someone doesn’t have a price with which to be bought, some figure that once reached will change their direction. That’s the beauty of strong belief and unity in a cause. It makes us stronger than them, and together, the men and women of BNC are unbeatable. And by that I don’t mean we will never lose an election, what I mean is that even if we do we will get back up, dust ourselves off, and keep at it because that is how we make a belief into a reality.

This strong feeling that we can fix the unfixable, that we can mend the broken wings of the symbol of the United States is as American a belief as one can have. It has been present since our inception.

“You’ll never beat the British empire, their power is too great!” cried the naysayers of the America Revolution, yet our forefathers won us the right to govern ourselves.

“You’ll never be free!” exclaimed the slavers to the indentured servants and to the abolitionists, yet black people shed their chains and walk now upright and free of their captors.

“You’ll never take part in our democracy!” shouted those that doubted women possessed the mental faculties to participate in our elections, yet women won the right to vote.

“You’ll never beat the corruption in DC!” sneers the political establishment in charge, and our response is in process, with the results of our pursuit pending.

One thing is for sure, this nation and its political spectrum has been misconstrued to be divisive. To be “left vs right” when in fact, the history of our great country has proven the only direction to be forward, and I believe that I am part of the push.

It’s time to unite under a common goal, under a shared set of beliefs. It’s time to push out the special interests who only stand for one thing, and it’s time to get rid of the politicians who stand for even less. It’s time to “make America great again”, by producing “change we can believe in”.

I believe we can do it. I believe we have the strength. I believe history is on our side. Don’t believe me? I’m 35. I believe I’ll outlive the ones galvanized against the goal of electing a Brand New Congress and that in my lifetime my beliefs will become the driving force behind moving our nation forward once again, to a better future that we all can share.
