People v Sumpter

In essence, the case of People of Michigan v Nelson Sumpter represents the anatomy of a broken criminal justice system. Despite the fact the record reflects not a single charge was filed against Nelson Sumpter or his brother, Omar Sumpter, the Sumpter brothers have been completely ignored by the entire state and federal judiciary, including the United States Supreme Court.

90% of the cases resulted in dismissal due to lack of evidence or probable cause, or plea bargains in which the defendants were merely sentenced to probation.

No charges were ever filed. Without formally accusing Nelson Sumpter of criminal acts, Abed Hammoud proceeded to illegally and unconstitutionally prosecute Nelson Sumpter on behalf of 41 counts of alleged mortgage fraud.

Nelson Sumpter was kidnapped September 19, 2007. He was searched, his car towed and belongings confiscated — without probable cause, without filed charges against him, and without a valid arrest warrant.

With Nelson Sumpter wrongfully detained at the Wayne County Jail, his daughters at school, and his wife away — an illegal search of their home was carried out.

Items belonging not only to Nelson Sumpter, but also to his wife and children were seized; vehicles, televisions, laptops, iPods, cell phones, family photos, gaming consoles, school papers, birth certificates, social security cards, shot records.

Using numerous defective search warrants, evidence was unlawfully seized and private information obtained, both prior to and following Nelson Sumpter’s abduction.

Every charge, every count, stemmed from the allegation of forged, digitally affixed homeowners’ signatures onto power of attorney documents.

At trial, the Gateway laptop computer was never powered on to prove either guilt or innocence.
