The Importance of Cultural Alignment

Culture is the one rule that defines why groups of people come together. Those groups of people may come together to build a business, to form a volunteer group, or to have a good time; all groups though, at the end of the day, come together because there is a cultural alignment to their own core values.

Cultural alignment reduces friction in almost all other activities in group building. If there are shared values, everything else is a second order of importance to those shared values. Without those shared values, a group slowly unravels.

Leaders of groups should spend time defining cultural alignment. What are the shared values in the group? How to get everyone to understand those values? Do those values change over time? How to cement those values to become more and more visible and physical expressions?
