The PR Pitch

Building on my newfound lessons of cold emailing, below is my first crack at a PR pitch, in this case, directed at the craft and makers publication Uppercase.

––––––––

Hello Janine,

I’ve been a fan of Uppercase Magazine for some time now and really appreciate the high-level sewing and craft projects, and creators that you elegantly feature each quarter. As a creative person myself, I have found that I — like you — have a broad interest in making. Which is why I am (finally) founding Lucky Elephant Studio.

Lucky Elephant Studio (LES) came out of a love of “creative curiosities”, as I’ve come to call them. Always interested in a variety of creative explorations, be it illustration, sewing, paper marbling or macrame, I’ve tended to halt my making because, for example, I don’t need twelve plant hangers. Lucky Elephant will absorb the inventory of my latest projects, meaning the art and perspective will always been fresh and relevant. Art is about the process so this will also be a place for documenting the course of creation.

Lucky Elephant’s launch date is set for April 1st (no, that’s not a joke!) and I’m excited to kick it off with an artistic collaboration. My dear friend Hannah is a New York City florist with an ethereal perspective of color and silhouette. Twice a week, Hannah will design mini arrangements while I illustrate them. The finished pieces will be a pair of both illustration and pressed original flowers. These mini pieces will be auctioned bi-weekly on the LES Instagram account. This collaboration will go on for the month of April, culminating in a raffle for a large final piece. The line drawings of each botanical illustration will be offered as collectable coloring sheets, either printed or digitally. Coloring sheets, postcards, stickers, and additional illustrations will be available at luckyelephant.studio. This range of offerings is priced at $3 and up, allowing many people to participate and collect as they can.

Hannah and I both feel strongly about supporting women in business and the arts, and a portion of the auction and raffle proceeds will go to support this.

If you’d be interested in doing a feature on Lucky Elephant for Uppercase, or if you’re working on another story that could benefit from an additional creator, I’d love to connect.

Thank you for your time and your inspiration to keep creating in new ways!

Warm Regards,

Brenda Hawley
