I Became A Monk Because I Hate People

THIS HAPPENED TO ME

People suck, solitude does not

A couple of weeks ago, I was going on a run in my neighborhood jamming to Radiohead’s OK Computer. I was wearing a man bun, a very unpopular hairstyle in a religiously and politically conservative neighborhood.

As I was running there were a couple Florida men working in the neighborhood — they were cutting branches from all the unnecessary palm trees around me. They took a cigarette break, congregated in a bunch without masks, and walked directly en route to where I was running.

I didn’t think I’d be near them — nor did I want to, so I ran faster. It appeared they saw me running faster in an effort to prevent being near them. So what did these Florida men do? They came closer to where I was running.

Finally, we crossed paths and my fight/flight radar was telling me to fly faster.

The Florida men saw this, blew their cigarette smoke in my direction, and sarcastically remarked, “Keep on running,” while laughing at me.

Such an experience made me realize I am too good for this world I live in. Not good in the sense of entitlement, good in the sense of kindness. The world is a cruel place and people want to laugh and make fun of hard working runners like me.

So I made a decision: I quit.

I quit everything related to society. I have enough fun in my imagination as it is, so I don’t need people to make me happy.

I deleted my social media accounts, took my light saber, and cut my phone in half. Then I booked a one-way ticket to Mars where no one I know will be able to disturb me.

So that’s why Elon Musk is building SpaceX.
